Flat-Back Set-On Rhinestones can either be set on the material with a rhinestone setter using metal-prong setting backs, or they can be glued on using one of the several adhesives specially made for the purpose.

These stones, along with sew-ons, are the 'traditional' rhinestones used for decades in all costuming projects. But with the recent improvements in glues and tools, and the speed and ease of use, Hot-Fix stones are becoming much more popular.
